Adelaide High School opens doors on $26m expansion

Adelaide High School has officially opened its doors to a completed $26 million expansion that includes first-class new facilities and the capacity for an extra 250 students.

Education and Child Development Minister Susan Close said the redeveloped high school is an impressive state-of-the-art education hub, delivered under the State Government’s Expanding State High Schools commitment.

“The redeveloped and expanded Adelaide High School has set a new benchmark for public education in South Australia, offering students a first-class education in incredible modern facilities.

“Adelaide High School has been a sought after school for many years and this expansion allows the school to cater for up to 1450 students, which has eased some enrolment pressure.

“The modern facilities and cutting-edge technology the school is fitted out with is very impressive,” Dr Close said.

Boasting a new three-story learning centre, the expansion accommodates new classrooms, flexible collaborative learning spaces, science laboratories, drama space and a resource centre with a private study areas for senior students.

It also accommodates a multi-media recording booth, outdoor social and learning areas, a rooftop plaza and a secure underground staff carpark.

There has been a refurbishment of general and specialist learning areas and associated staff preparation areas, along with landscaping and upgrades to the school’s IT infrastructure and power.

“A new rooftop plaza has proven to be a hugely popular place for students to utilize for private study and recreation, and the recording booth is another favourite addition,” Dr Close said.

“Seeing a huge redevelopment like this one come to fruition is always an exciting occasion, and I know the students, staff and the wider school community will enjoy their new surrounds.”
