The Bays Precinct Transformation Plan includes creating a mix of public space, housing and employment opportunities with a new waterfront fresh food market, dining district and a five kilometre waterfront promenade from Balmain to Pyrmont as part of the proposed redevelopment.
The plan has been developed in collaboration with the local community and urban transformation specialists following a discussion paper release at the Sydneysiders Summit earlier this year.
NSW Premier Mike Baird said redevelopment of The Bays Precinct will create space for high-tech jobs as well as sustainable homes of the future.
“White Bay Power Station has the potential to be a hub for knowledge-intensive jobs in new economy areas, while providing an opportunity to restore the heritage building and provide public access to the foreshore”, Mr Baird said.
A Request For Proposals will be released to identify organisations that are capable of delivering a globally recognised transformation of the White Bay Power Station and its surrounds will be open from 30 October 2015 to 25 February 2016.
More information about the redevelopment can be found at The Bays Sydney website.
