Melbourne Voted The World’s Most Liveable City Once More
Melbourne has been voted the world’s most liveable city for a fifth-straight year.
The annual Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index looks at 140 cities worldwide, and we topped the list once more. Melbourne secured perfect scores of 100 in healthcare, education and infrastructure, culture and environment, and sport.
It’s vindication of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitments, and a sign we’re heading in the right direction.
Melbourne is Australia’s fastest growing capital, and we’re the only city in the world to win the coveted survey five times. Melbourne has consistently featured in the top five cities since the survey was established in 2002.
We are the major events capital of Australia and the sporting capital of the world. We’re the multicultural state, the education state, and we’re where investors from all over the world want to do business. The survey results are proof Melbourne really does have the best of everything.
In the five years Melbourne has retained top spot, international visitation has increased by 8 per cent annually – that’s far higher than the national average. Our long list of major events and business conferences and our prized natural attractions bring visitors from all over the world – and all year round.
But we will never be complacent. The Labor Government is investing $20 billion in major transport infrastructure and $5.4 billion in health and education to create jobs and deliver a stronger economy.
The Labor Government is getting on with a once-in-a-generation shake-up of Victoria’s tourism and major events sector to keep us number one. The establishment of Visit Victoria will sell the strengths of our state like never before. It means more opportunities and a stronger economy.
And, Brand Victoria will showcase the best of everything our state has to offer – including our economic strengths, cultural diversity, liveability and world-class events.
